Whinnybank News

This week we have a very sad story – but it does have a happy ending! A lady handed in a very pregnant young cat – she was like a football so Sue thought she was due to have her kittens very soon. However, 2 weeks later she was still pregnant & had sadly come down with cat flu she had caught from one of the feral cats. Sue was concerned for her & because she was unable to have antibiotics she had her vet checked regularly. She had her kittens between 18.30 & 22.30 on Saturday but their Mum didn’t seem interested in them, possibly because she had temporarily lost her sense of smell due to the flu, so Sue had to take on the role of Mum. Sadly the 5 premature kittens all died, probably because of the flu virus. Seven days later the mum was still ‘fat’ so Sue decided to take her for a vet scan on Monday… only to discover that she had given birth to one full grown healthy kitten overnight!! So, we ended up with a very happy & healthy mum with lots of milk for her very happy, healthy kitten 🙂
