Whinnybank News

Sue wants to update everyone on how her own cats are at Whinnybank, most of whom are semi-feral or feral. Sue has been working with feral cats for over 35 years – it all began with Hamish & Angela from Perth, who Sue met when Hamish needed some feral cats trapping & neutering at his work. Sue’s feral work continued from then – mostly in Dundee to begin with. Sadly, Angela suddenly passed away in her sleep recently and our thoughts are with Hamish. Sue’s collection of feral permanent residents are mostly from drug abuse cruelty cases. They were un-homeable at the time and are still enjoying their life at WB, watching the frogs in the pond, being well-fed and, at this time of the year they are enjoying the sun! With summer approaching they get their annual ‘MOTs’ – including de-matting, teeth done, and treated for parasites – not so much fleas but ear mites because they share their beds. When Sue began her feral work there were lots of feral colonies in need of trapping and neutering to prevent problems associated with inbreeding and to stop the colonies getting even bigger. Now, after all Sue’s years of trapping and neutering, it is usually only single un-neutered feral tom cats making a nuisance of themselves while looking for females!  Sue’s favourite jobs are when the people who have asked for help in these situations want the cat returned once it has been neutered. Sue thinks it is so lovely that these single males, who are on the streets through no fault of their own, can be returned to being cared for & fed by the people who have been doing just that, usually for quite a long time.
