Whinnybank News

Sue is getting a bit frustrated when people do not realise how busy she is. Her working day starts as early as 4 or 5am and, after she has been out and about catching injured, stray or feral cats, getting veterinary help, and dealing with emergency call outs pretty much on a daily basis, she gets home to many phone messages every single day. Some people ask her to call them back but do not leave a number for her to call them on so there is nothing she can do in those cases. Sue then has to triage the remaining calls so that the most urgent are dealt with first – an emergency, a life or death situation, always has to come first!

If your call is not urgent it may take 24 hours, or even a few days for Sue to get back to you, but she will call you back. Recently, a non-urgent message was left for Sue asking if she could take in a cat as the owner had died and the cat was getting stressed with the house being emptied. People can forget that the home is also the cat’s home so Sue would like to remind people to find a safe place for any pets in this situation, before they begin emptying the house. When Sue returned the call the next morning she was told the cat had been put to sleep. We are all horrified at this – especially as we have no problem finding homes for elderly cats. We sometimes have a bit of a queue but we never give up on a healthy cat, no matter how old they are – just look at Felix at 24 years old!
